I am generally very in tune with people's words and phrases. I believe words are incredibly powerful. I've been listening lately and here are some of the things I've heard:
"if it's the last thing I ever do....", "I'll do it if it kills me" , "I'm such an idiot", "I broke my back for him", "I bent over backwards for her", "I'm not the brightest light in the room", "I am a sitting duck", "I am always broke" "I'll eat anything" "it's such a pain in the ass" and the classic, "over my dead body!".
I encourage you to listen to your own words. Sometimes we say things to be funny. Sometimes we say things because we feel down or desperate and maybe we're trying to lighten up. I am however an advocate for positive words. Not Pollyanna style...I don't mean if your house has been robbed you need to find the wonderful lesson in it. I just mean to watch your words. When we speak, our own brain listens to what we are saying. I use to say, "I am so fat." Frankly, I've never been fat but if I keep telling myself that, my brain wants to oblige the apparent truth I am telling it and no doubt I'll start seeking out the chips and ice cream!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not superstitious. I just believe that in making our plans to design our lives we need to use words that are forward thinking and positive to help us get to where we want to go. For instance, "I work hard", "I'll keep trying", "I like to eat healthy", "I am taking charge of my finances", "I invested a lot in that relationship but it just wasn't the right one for me". You'll be amazed at how your own words will change your perspective on your life.
